What do I need in order to make a personal injury claim?

If you’re planning on making a personal injury claim there are a few things that you’ll need to have before we can get the ball rolling.

The basic things that you will need in order to institute a claim include:

  • Photographs of the accident
  • Photographs of your injury
  • Written reports from the accident (eg. Police report if they attended)
  • Written reports from medical professionals
  • Names, contact details, and any documentation from witnesses

Depending on the circumstances of the accident and the amount that you are planning on claiming back you may also need:

  • Proof of loss of earnings due to the accident
  • Proof of out-of-pocket expenses such as prescriptions and receipts for treatments.

If liability for your accident is disputed then you may need to provide further documentation or evidence to complete your claim for compensation, this could include:

  • In respect of a road traffic accident – A sketched plan of the position of vehicles and photographs of road markings, accident report, eye witness accounts
  • For accidents at work – The specifications of any damaged machinery that may have caused injury
  • Slips or trips – Photographs of the hazard that caused your accident together with photographs of any disclaimer notices in an around the scene
